OUR REQUEST
We earnestly request our Past Pupils and colleagues to contribute for the scholarship fund and assist needy students of our ALMA MATER.
The Trust is dependent on funds received as donations from Past Pupils and well wishers. So far the scheme has managed to offer scholarships to about 20 needy students every year, selected through a transparent procedure.
Your participation will afford you the opportunity to be a partner in an endeavor that will make a favorable difference to the life of a needy family.
THE TRUST
In 1996, the Trust commenced a scheme to award scholarships to deserving students of Dharmasoka College who gained admission to Sri Lanka Universities based on the results of the G. C. E. (Advance Level) examination held in the previous year.
“The Dharmasoka College Past Pupils Association–Colombo Branch Scholarship Trust” was established in 1996, and since then the Trust has consistently awarded an average of twenty (20) scholarships each year. It is supported by 16 Special Funds. In this situation, the Trust has been canvassing individual scholarships every year to supplement the Special Fund awards.
Incorporated under Section 114 of the Trust Ordinance (Chapter 85), theTrust has been declared as an “Approved Charity” by the Hon Minister of Finance in terms of the Inland Revenue Act by Gazette Notification No. 797 dated 10th December1993. Accordingly, a donation made to the Trust is a permissible deduction from the donor’s assessable income for income tax purposes.
How you could contribute for this worthy cause
Each such Scholarship Award is equivalant to Rs. 60,000/= payable to recipients over a three year period.

Option 1
You can pay the donation upfront for the total amount of Rs. 60,000/= for a scholarship.

Option 2
The higher amounts in Special Fund will be invested in fixed deposits maintained at government banks and the inters income derived annually will be utilized to make SCholarship Awards in the following manner.
Amount of the Special Fund Frequency of a Scholarship Award Rs. 220,000 Once in every three years Rs. 325,000 Once in every two years Rs. 650,000 Every year

SELECTION PROCESS
A student who has gained admission from the College to a Sri Lankan University is eligible to apply for a scholarship, he/she should be able to substantiate that the monthly income of the student’s family is at or below a level determined by the Trustees (currently Rs, 45,000 per month).
The Principal of the College provides to the Trust a list of the students who have qualified for admission to Universities based on the results of the G. C. E. (Advance Level) examination held in the previous year.
Forms of Application are sent by the Trust to all students on the list of successful University entrants. Duly completed Applications received by the Trust are evaluated on points given below :
- Level of the family income,
- Number of years of study at the College,
- Course of study at the University, and
- Distance of the residence of the student from the College.
The Applicants are then short listed according to the number of points obtained on evaluation. The final selection is made after home visits by a panel, consisting of two or more Trustees and a member of the Executive Committee of the Dharmasoka College Past Pupils Association - Colombo Branch, to verify the information provided in the Applications.
Efforts are made to encourage scholarship recipients to be in contact with their respective donors. With this in view, the donors are invited for the award ceremony held every year at the College, attended by all Grade 13 students of that year.
MERIT AWARDS
In addition to this process, the Trust awards four scholarships to four students with highest Z-Score marks in the four streams (Arts, Bio Science, Maths and Commerce). These students are selected by the College.
On the instructions of DCPPA - Col Branch, Trust has formulated a procedure to enroll awardees life membership of DCPPA - Col Branch so that they could contribute to this worthy cause.
