8th Annual General Meeting, 2019
On Saturday, 28th September 20119, Old Sokians - United Kingdom 8th AGM was held at Houslow football club, London. Old Sokians - United Kingdom is a registered charity organisation of the past pupils of Ambalngoda Dharmasoka College, Sri Lanka and presently living in the United Kingdom and European Union.
AGM was started with the quorum and College Song together with 2 minutes silent dedicated for late teachers and Past Students those who were not amongst us on the day. Proceedings started by outgoing President of the OS -UK Jayamini De Silva by welcoming all members and their families for attending the AGM and delivered detailed presentation of the events occurred during past ten years. Began from the start of the organization, achievement of charitable status, projects delivered, and including 7th AGM minutes.
Welcome to the website of Old Sokians UK
Old Sokians UK (OS-UK) is a voluntary charitable association of the past pupils of Dharmasoka College, Ambalngoda Sri Lanka and presently living in the United Kingdom and EU. Our membership is not confined to the UK and we welcome the Sokians from EU and beyond to join us. Our principal objectives are detailed within our constitution, please refer to the Publications section for details.
The idea of establishing a past pupils association had been in the minds of many alumni living in the UK for a long time. On the 2nd of October 2010 an informal meeting was held at Jayamini de Silva's house in Newcastle upon Tyne after her art exhibition “Neth”. Dr. Sunil de Silva, Dr. Samantha de Silva, Ms. Jayamini de Silva Ms. Aruna de Silva, Dr. Deepa Ranjini and Mr. Shiyamin Mohamed participated.
Family Get-together and 7th Annual General Meeting, 2017
On Saturday, 21st October 2017, Old Sokians - United Kingdom 7 th AGM was held at Newcastle United Golf Club, Newcastle upon Tyne. Old Sokians - United Kingdom is a registered charity organisation of the past pupils of Ambalngoda Dharmasoka College, Sri Lanka and presently living in the United Kingdom and European Union.
AGM was organised by Executive Committee of OS -UK as a family reunion Entertainment event with authentic Sri Lankan Dinner on Nelum Kole and Peduru Sajje with live Sri Lankan music by Shiran Waduge's Rhythm Brothers.
It was mainly aimed to electing new office bearers for the 2017-2019 office term, project achievements, brief lessons learned activities and future projects plans for the betterment of Ambalangoda Dharmasoka College.
AGM was started with College Song together with 2 minutes silent dedicated for late teachers and Past Students those who were not amongst us on the day. Proceedings started by outgoing President of the OS -UK Dr. Ruwan Fernando by welcoming all members and their families for attending the AGM and thanked for their attendance to make this fantastic evening a success.
Subsequently, Secretary of the OS -UK Dhammika Siripala presented the 2016/2017 office term activities in detail including Achieving charitable status, Technology update, FOC and projects completed. Among his remarks, communication mechanism with the school on initiation, ongoing and closing of projects delivery was the key highlight.
